Is There A Walmart Or Target In Saipan?

My husband and I are moving to Saipan soon for work, and we’re looking for cheap shopping options. It appears that Walmart is a sensitive subject on the island? Is our best bet Costco and “Dolphin Wholesale”?

I don’t know who is answering you.. people who have never been to Saipan?
Firstly, there IS Target outside of the US.. I was recently in 3 different Target outlets in Melbourne, Australia..
Secondly, WalMart is everywhere.. or so it seems to me becaus eI keep seeing it. (and I am going to admit, that whenever I get out of Seoul, Korea, I DO go to WAlMart for stock-ups)
Wal-Mart has had troubles with unions overseas, and also knwoing their market. For example, they did NOT make it here is South Korea, but Costco continues to flourish.
Wal-Mart has garnered a poor reputation world-wide, USA included, for it’s “tough-on-union” policies. The union in China succeeded with WalMart, and the WalMarts in China are runnign with a union in place.
Anyway, here is my advice for you for Saipan:
Saiapan and Guam are known to be the 2 “American” outposts in Asia Pacific. Westerners living abroad usually take at least 1 holiday to the PIC resort(s) there. (there is one in Guam and 1 in SAipan) Guam skews heavier on the Japanese tourists and Saipan leans heavy on the Russians.
(who have a lot of money… PIC is all-inclusive and starts around $400/night) Beyond the beach vacation, stocking up for upcoming holidays/shopping is our other main reason for going.
You will find American products there, but you can also expect hte Costco and shopping malls to be a small different than back home. HIgher end products will be harder to find. Meaning: typical/well loved US products are there, but you are still going ot come up dry on things like “whole wheat couscous” , “flax seed” or “wheat germ”.. You will find it, but you’ll have to scout around. I am always having distress keeping my healthy food supply going here in Asia. But that could be right in some more remote, or smaller cities, in the USA. I do not know where you are from.
Bottom line: if you have special products you MUST have, then place them in your shipping container. And stock up whenever you get out of Saipan. I have found ShangHai to stock the most upscale American products. Cheap shopping too.
I just thought.. maybe you are US military? If u are, you will have their shopping as well.. I do not know what their supply is like on Saipan. In Korea, it is dreadful.

Target doesn’t have any stores outside of the U.S. Walmart has a few in the UK.

    Hi there!
Well my wife and daughter and I just went to Saipan ourselves. In regard of shopping around here – there are a couple pretty decent stores, but no huge chain like Target or Walmart. You won’t find “everything” you are used to from at home on the island, but generally speaking I would say the selection pretty ok. Be prepared to pay quite a bit more for familiar items though. For example: a package of Strawberry Jello is about 3 usd, huge bag of Doritos is about 6 or 7 usd. If you are with the military this would be different, since they have their own store :-) If you need any further help, just send me an email – nikolaus.klug@gmail.com
Hope you will have a excellent moving experience!
